Valles Caldera Fencing Removal

July 2021

The RGR YCC crew has been hard a work on a fencing removal project in the Valles Caldera National Preserve. The goal of this project is to remove roughly 30 miles of legacy cattle fence and support the re-wilding of a large section of the San Antonio Creek drainage.

Abandoned cattle fencing poses a serious risk to wildlife. Elk and deer often get caught in fences trying to cross them and end up starving to death with their hind legs trapped. Removing unused fencing will limit this threat to wildlife and open up safer migration corridors for elk and deer in the Caldera.

The crew has been enjoying the beautiful views and unique sights of the Caldera!
